Draft:Hex (cryptocurrency)

Hex is a cryptocurrency created by Richard Heart. It was launched on the Ethereum blockchain in December 2019[1] and later forked to another blockchain, Pulsechain, in 2023.[2]

Advertising

edit

Hex is one of several cryptocurrency projects to engage in mass advertising. In 2020 British newspaper The Economist published a controversial advert about Hex.[3]

Diamond renaming

edit

In February 2022, British-founded auctioneer Sotheby's sold a one billion year old diamond known as The Enigma for £3.16m. In 2006 it had been named the world’s largest cut diamond by Guinness World Book of Records.[4] Although Sotheby's did not identify the purchaser, Heart claimed that he was the buyer, and that it would been renamed the "HEX.com diamond". [5]

Movie

edit

A movie about Hex and Heart was released in summer 2023. The Highest of Stakes[6] features Heart along with both fans and critics of himself and Hex. Later the same year it was made available on AppleTV[7] and Amazon Prime Video.

Books

edit

Several books have been published about Hex.[citation needed]

Lawsuits

edit

In September 2021, an Arizona resident took legal action against popular website Coinmarketcap, claiming they did not list Hex in its correct location. The case was dismissed in February 2023.[8]

Later that year, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) charged Heart with raising funds illegally initially for Hex and later for Pulsechain and PulseX.[9]
