Haroun Yusuf is a Nigerian medical doctor and psychologist with a focus on behavioral and sexual health, born on September 1, 1985.[1] Haroun, who now is based in the United States, is the founder of the Love for Health Organization (LHO), a non-governmental organization dedicated to raising healthcare awareness.[1] [2][3]Founded by Haroun Yusuf in 2008, Love for Health (LHO) is dedicated to providing comprehensive healthcare services, including clinical care, reproductive health support, prenatal services, mental health assistance, and more, all while pursuing the cause of gender equality and the eradication of gender-based violence.[4]

Early Life and Education edit

Haroun embarked on his academic journey at Gbagada Grammar School, Lagos, earning his Senior Secondary School Leaving Certificate. He pursued a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) degree at Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), Ikeja, Lagos, which he completed in 2012.[5] [1]

He graduated from medical school in November 2011 and was awarded his certificate in February 2012. He immediately offered to volunteer in St. Catherine Medical Centre in Mafoluku, Oshodi.[1] Haroun volunteered at St. Catherine for a year, before interning at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja, Nigeria, in 2012. Afterwards, he went ahead to fulfill his one-year mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at Bariga Primary Health Centre, Lagos in 2013.[1] He won a scholarship in medical school and wrote a letter to the then governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola on the concept of love for health. The letter which won him scholarship was eventually published in the Lagos State scholarship booklet.[1]

During his pursuit of an MBBS, Haroun authored a journal in 2008, titled “Love for Health Journal (Concept of health, medicine, and treatment in patients).[1][5] Between 2013 and 2015, Haroun practiced privately at Finnih Medical Centre in GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, before embarking on a journey to Saudi Arabia. There, he worked as an Amerisource Supervisor for a 3PL Pharmaceutical Logistic Centre. [1] Haroun, now a medical doctor furthered his education by enrolling in Franklin University, Ohio, United States, to pursue a Masters in Business Administration with Healthcare Administration as the major.[6][1]

Love for Health Organization edit

Love for Health (LHO) is dedicated to providing comprehensive healthcare services, including clinical care, reproductive health support, prenatal services, mental health assistance, and more, championing the cause of gender equality and the eradication of gender-based violence [4] The NGO was inspired by the desire to reach remote communities, those who face geographic, financial, or social barriers when seeking medical care, [7] encompassing clinical care, reproductive health support, prenatal services, mental health assistance, and more. [2]

Love for Health Organization’s mission is grounded in the belief that every woman, regardless of her financial circumstances, deserves access to top-tier healthcare and support.[4][2] Their recent achievements reflect their commitment to women and children’s well-being. Love for Health Organization isan advocate for gender equality and the eradication of gender-based violence.[2]

Haroun's vision for the organization is to provide women with access to quality healthcare while advocating for their rights and improved healthcare services in local communities across the globe.[1] Love for Health as a foundation has accomplished over 1200 outreaches in Nigeria. [7][4] LHO's vision includes conducting 100,000 outreaches within a year and reaching one million outreaches in the next ten years. To realize this goal, LHO has assembled a dedicated and experienced team of healthcare workers who are committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of women and children across Nigeria. Almighty Rolex Secondary School, Lagos, Nigeria: 210 girls received valuable souvenirs, including menstrual pads, exercise books, and essential writing materials. [4]

Unita Hospital and Maternity, Nigeria: Six women who received cash gifts, aiding them in various aspects of their lives, particularly concerning maternal health.[4][2]

Pivic Group of Schools, Lagos, Nigeria: 87 girls were provided with gifts and souvenirs, supporting the educational pursuits of young women in Nigeria. [2][4]500 free consultations and cash support to over 400 individuals.[2][4]

As a medical professional based in the US [2][6], Haroun has used his platform to advocate for the Nigerian Government to do more on biomedical research, training young minds, promoting innovations and academic research to be prepared for expected and unexpected eventualities and contingencies like global pandemics.[3]
