editIn March 2024, Christopher McDonald revealed that a sequel to Happy Gilmore was in development, and that Adam Sandler had shown him a draft of the script to read.[1] The following month, in a preview of a then-upcoming episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, host Drew Barrymore said that she had asked Sandler about the sequel. Moments later, Barrymore seemingly confirmed that Sandler had a screenplay ready, "This just in, I have breaking news. I’ll just say this, from my source, that it is in process".[2]
In May, it was announced that Netflix had officially greenlit the film, taking over the first film's distributor Universal Pictures.[3]
