Hao Wang (Chinese: 王灏) is a machine learning researcher. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Rutgers University, where he runs the Machine Learning Lab.[1]
Academic biography
editWang completed his undergraduate studies at Shanghai Jiao Tong University with an outstanding thesis award,[2] a PhD in Computer Science at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology as the sole winner of the School of Engineering PhD Research Excellence Award for his thesis on Bayesian deep learning,[3] and postdoctoral training at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory working with Dina Katabi and Tommi Jaakkola on Bayesian deep learning and its application to healthcare.[4][5][6][7]
In 2015, he was awarded a Microsoft Fellowship in Asia[8] for his pioneering research on Bayesian deep learning and its application to recommender systems and data mining in general.[9] His work, Collaborative Deep Learning for Recommender Systems, as an instantiation of Bayesian deep learning in the recommender systems domain and the world's first deep hybrid recommender system, is the most cited article at ACM SIGKDD 2015.[10]
In 2020, he won the Amazon Faculty Research Award for his research on Bayesian deep learning and domain adaptation.[11]
