Taylor Blackmore:

"HHS XC had the benefit of having one of the best athletes to grace our program in Taylor. Her 14th place run combined with 15th place run of her classmate Caitlyn Steeves along with Abby Murphy and Ella Summerville positioned our school to win its first medal on the women's side. The team finished a single point off the podium, placing 4th. Still one of our best teams ever. Taylor has many gifts beyond her joyful good nature. Taylor would pursue other athletics within the arts. She would go on to study dance at the Quinte Ballet School of Canada. She ran two years with HHS and got her start with us wearing the green and white of HMS. Best wishes, Taylor."- Coach John Herron.

Reece Pierce Martell:

"Celebrating our co-captain Reece Pierce Martell. Reece's contributions to our program are numerous. An accomplished soccer player, Reece, along with many of our current runners, joined our program during the early days of the pandemic- seeking a place to maintain his fitness.

Reece filled the leadership void on the men's side after the graduation of the solid teams the two previous years. He was fit in 2020 to run well, but was denied the chance to show his gift due to pandemic restrictions that re-emerged. The following year, in grade 11, Reece would captain the team, and was largely responsible for the recruitment of a trio of seniors that would prove to be among the best in the province.

The team of Reece and seniors Will McPherson, Owen Guptill along with the two juniors, Will Dee and Ethan Guptill, who ran up a division, would form one of the best teams in the province and one of the best teams ever for HHS XC. The team won the South-West Regional championship and finished 4th overall at the NBIAA provincial championship in a close competition- where they threatened for the title that Saturday at Odell Park.

Reece concluded his great career with a great run in Bathurst at the Provincial meet, yet his greatest accomplishment this past fall was seen through the 2nd place win of the Junior Men's team, that included the juniors who gained experience from the previous year. Our rebuilt program on the men's side benefitted from Reece's efforts in recruiting and leadership. Reece was not our lead dog on course, but was the team's leader.

He is a fine young person, well mannered, with a solid work ethic. He is well thought of by his peers and teachers and certainly his coach. Wishing you the best, Reece, we know you will be successful in the exciting journey ahead."- Coach John Herron.

Caitlyn Steeves:

"If there was such a thing as a valedictorian for an athletics team- such a title would belong to Caitlyn Steeves. Caitlyn is one of the most talented athletes and students that we have had the pleasure to coach. An accomplished soccer player, member of the NB Canada Games team, she is our co-captain, the HHS soccer and hockey captain, plays a mean game of badminton, and is one of the leading hockey goal scorers in school history. The only place I suggest where she scores more is in the classroom, as one of the school's leading students.

Caitlyn Steeves is a leader, a leader by example, with an understated tenacity. I trust you can tell that we are fans.

Caitlyn Steeves has ran with us, since the days of wearing the green and white of HMS, was the pace setter for the very competitice junior girls team of Abby Murphy, Ella Summerville, and Taylor Blackmore. Always the anchor of the women's side of the women's side of the program. Her presence on the team helped draw others this past fall that enabled us to field a senior girls team for the first time in memory- a team that did more than just show up, they were just one place off the podium, finishing 4th at the NBIAA Provincial meet in Bathurst.

Caitlyn will bring her talent, bright mind, and work ethic to the campus of St. Thomas University next year. We all wish you continued success on the next step of her journey. Bravo Caitlyn for your leadership and accomplishments. We know there are many more ahead."- Coach John Herron.

Karli Weyers:

"Congratulations to Karli Weyers. Karli, along with her sister Lene Weyers, joined HHS XC two seasons ago after their move from their home in South Africa.

They were vital to our ability to field a competitive team at the senior girls level for the first time in our memory. The team would go on to place 4th last fall at the NBIAA Provincial meet. Karli is as steady as it comes, in the classroom, on the race course, and as a friend.

Although Karli and Lene Weyers and the family moved to Fredericton last fall, we appreciate that they hung around until the end of the cross country season. Of course I will remember fondly, our trip back from provincials with Lene and the spontaneously sushi birthday celebration in Moncton. We will be forever grateful to have had Karly Weyers in the mix these past two years. Best wishes on your graduation from FHS and for your studies next year at UNB- Nursing"- Coach John Herron.

Championship Success by Year edit

2022-2023 edit

Cross Country edit

The junior boys' squad finished second in Bathurst to give HHS XC their first medal in quite some time. The team also had one of the best performances by a HHS athlete in the provincial competition, with Orri Gionet finishing fifth out of 56 runners. The team had one of the closest finishes in the event by tying with Fredericton High School in points, each with 57. However, the team's fourth runner, Jack Smith, did a phenomenal job as the team's fourth runner, finishing higher than Fredericton High School's fourth runner, finishing in 21st. Due to Jack finishing higher than Fredericton's fourth, Hampton clinched the silver medal, finishing behind a superstar team of École Secondaire Nepisiguit. The team consisted of Orri Gionet, Will Dee, Curtis Price, Jack Smith, and Denver LeBlanc.[3]

The senior girls' squad finished fourth in Bathurst, just shy of a medal finish. The team was one of the best the girls have had in years, also being one of the only full 4+ senior girls squad in quite some time. Caitlyn Steeves had the team's best finish of the meet, finishing 14th out of 48 runners. The team finished just eight points off Ecole L'Odyssée, who had an average course time of 25:17.53, while the Hampton squad had an average course time of 25:26.43.[3]

Track and Field edit

Eight of Hampton XC's athletes were eligible to compete at the NBIAA Provincial Championships on June 2nd, 2023.[4] Considering the number of athletes the Hampton XC squad had compared to the rest of the field and competing against AAA schools, the team had a phenomenal 22nd place finish out of 38 schools, with the team's highest scorer being Orri Gionet, scoring 10 points for the team, finishing in the Junior Boys' 1500m and 3000m. The team's second highest scorer was Denver LeBlanc, scoring 9 points for the team, finishing fifth in the 400m and fourth in the 800m. Caitlyn Steeves and Grace Stevenson also got great finishes, with a combined score of 8.[5]
