Gordon Odametey (born in the 20th century in "Beje Wo Ahumi," Ghana) is a Ghanaian musician living in Germany.

Early Life edit

Gordon Odametey grew up in the village of "Beje Wo Ahumi," where he lived with his family. After all, what we knew them best was that they were a unique drummer and dancer.[1] Following the influence of his grandfather, a renowned herbalist, he recognizes the healing powers of certain spoken words and the peculiar sounds of a flute, especially the "heartbeat sound."[1][2][3]

In Ghana and neighbouring countries, he quickly became famous as the best drummer. He was teaching his fellow Africans and, later, Europeans. First at a violin school outside Accra, and today in Berlin and Europe. Gordon Odametey has lived in Berlin since 1985. He paid and still plays in many groups, such as, "No o Fears," "Bibiba, "Root B. . Tama "The World Orchestra", "Senegambigha," and Ade People. He also performed with other drummers such as Mustapha Tettey Addy and Aja Addy. With Ogidi-Gidi, whom he founded in 1987, he toured with "Blach Uhuru" and "The Wailers" and also made TV shows with them. He plays for dancers; he composes and plays rhythms. He also composes scores for various musicians. Last but not least, he showcased his skills in numerous solo-concerts in Berlin, Basel, Vienna, Paris, New Orleans, Hongkong Kong, etc. Gordon Odametey has found his own very unique style. With his traditional background and long experience in many genres, he is working on the bridge between traditional African music and contemporary genres around the world.[1]

Personal Life edit

Gordon Odametey was born in the village of “Beje Wo Ahumi”. He comes from a family that produced many drummers and congregants. He taught violin at a violin school near Nkran. Gordon Odametey has lived in Germany since 1985. He performed with, among others, No Fears, Bibiba, Root B. Tama, the World Music Orchestra, Mustapha Tettey Addy and Aja Addy.

He performed with the band Ogidi Gidi, which he founded in 1987, as an opener for Black Uhuru and The Wailers. Since 2006 he has been with the Afrobeat Academy touring with Adé Bantu.[4]
