Gassem Mitri (born 15 September 1968 in Bielefeld, Germany) is a German competitive athlete who specializes in the martial arts of taekwondo and kickboxing. Since entering the sport in 1986, he has enjoyed an impressive career. Mitri is one of the few athletes to have achieved the 8th Dan of the International Taekwondo Federation (ITF). He achieved this high distinction in 2021[1]. During his active career, he won numerous German championships and European championship titles in both taekwondo and kickboxing[2]. Mitri celebrated his greatest success in 1995 when he was crowned world champion in kickboxing in Stuttgart [3]. This outstanding achievement made him a well-known personality in the world of martial arts. After retiring from active competition, Mitri has remained heavily involved in martial arts. He works as a coach, referee and examiner, passing on his extensive knowledge and experience to the next generation of martial artists [4]. For his services to martial arts, Gassem Mitri was elected to the board of ITF Germany in 2021. In this position, he is actively involved in the promotion and further development of taekwondo in Germany [5].
