Frank Jackson won the first World Horseshoe Championship held in Bronson Kansas in 1909[1] and went on to win the World Horseshoe Pitching Tournament at total of 13 times: 1909, 1910, 1911, 1912, 1913, 1915, 1920, 1924, and 1926."Frank Jackson, Kellerton, IA". Jackson "could lay two ringers over the short stake (today, stakes are set at 15 inches, with a three-inch lean toward the opposite stake) and prevent opponents from keeping their shoes on the rod."[2]

Before the 1927 Tournament, a tribute to Jackson, a poem written in his honor in The Horsehoe World (the ) was prefaced with: "Frank Jackson of Kellerton, Iowa who was champion horsehoe pitcher of the world seven years agoo, lost the championship at that time at the age of 53. On the 18th of February, 1926, at the age of 55 he competed in the annual national tournament at St. Petersburg, Fla. and recaptured the championship winning from Orren Mossman, aged 19, who had achieved the wonderful record of 22 ringers out of 24 shoes."[3]

The his last World Tournament in Moline, Illinois in 1935, the 65-year old Jackson finished fifth with a 72.9 ringer average.[4]
