Franco Alirio Vallejo Cabrera is a renowned Colombian agricultural engineer and academic. He earned his degree in Agricultural Engineering from the National University of Colombia, later specializing in Genetics and Plant Breeding at the same university, and finally obtaining his Ph.D. in Genetics and Plant Improvement from the University of Sao Paulo.

He has had a distinguished professional career as a Full Professor and Emeritus Professor at the National University of Colombia, serving as Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences on five occasions, Vice-Rector of the National University of Colombia, Director General of Graduate Programs at the Palmira Campus, and Leader of the Ph.D. Program in Agricultural Sciences at the National University of Colombia. He has also been a member of the Council of the National Program for Science and Technology in Agriculture (Colciencias) and a Principal Member of the National Council for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (CONACES).

Additionally, he has directed the Research Group on Genetic Improvement of Vegetables, category A1 of Colciencias. Franco Alirio Vallejo is originally from Pupiales, Nariño, and since his youth, he dreamed of studying at the best agricultural faculty in the country, which led him to Palmira, Valle del Cauca, where he has developed a significant part of his career.

He has been a pioneer in achieving great milestones, such as being the first full-time professor in the area of plant breeding at the National University of Colombia's Palmira campus, establishing the first research group on this campus, and creating, along with other colleagues, the Master's programs in Plant Breeding, Seed Systems, and Plant Genetic Resources, as well as the country's only Ph.D. program in Agricultural Sciences.
