The Film Critics Guild is a network of film critics in India. Formed in 2018[1], it had prominent critic Anupama Chopra as the Chairperson of the Guild along with other critics such as Baradwaj Rangan, Bhawana Somaaya, Rajeev Masand, Shubhra Gupta, Rohit Khilnani[2]. The Guild cites its role as promoting film criticism in India, besides appreciating and evaluating India's diverse film sector. It presently has a membership of around 50 members, from diverse language backgrounds and publications. Anupama Chopra is the current Guild chairperson with Stutee Ghosh being Vice-chairperson. Its website describes itself as "India’s first registered association of film critics".[3]
Critics Choice Awards edit
The Guild announces its annual Critics Choice Awards. These awards go out to categories such as Feature Films, Web Series and Short Films. The categories include Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Actress, in addition to other technical fields. This evaluation is audited.
The Critics Choice Awards for the first edition of the awards was held in 2019.[4] where Andhadhun won 4 awards including Best Film, Best Director, Best Writing and Best Edtiing. In the first year, films from 8 different languages[5][4] were honored, that included Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali.
The Film Critics Guild also holds discussions and talks about cinema on their social media platforms. The Guild confers the Gender Sensitivity Award[6] at the Mumbai International Film Festival and at the Dharamshala International Film Festival[7]

Membership in the Film Critics Guild is open to individuals committed to film criticism, after a screening process.
