Ferma Dacilor lodge fire, which occurred in the morning of December 26, 2023, was a tragedy in which 7 people lost their lives. The lodge, which did not have a fire permit, was completely destroyed in the fire.
Chronology of Events
editAround 5:45 a.m., firefighters were called to intervene at the "Ferma Dacilor" lodge in Tohani. Upon their arrival, the fire was already raging, and the burning was widespread throughout the entire building.
Unfortunately, individuals on the ground floor managed to evacuate safely, but those on the upper floor remained in danger. In total, 26 people were accommodated at the lodge, attending a party the evening before the tragedy.
Firefighters operated with 10 firefighting vehicles and approximately 60 intervention team members. Due to the violence of the fire, they could not intervene to evacuate those trapped inside.
Shortly after the outbreak of the fire, the first charred victims were recovered. Initially, information was contradictory, but it appears that at least one child and one adult were among the deceased.
Reactions and Consequences
editThe fire at the "Ferma Dacilor" lodge sparked a national response, with authorities willing to thoroughly analyze the circumstances that led to this tragedy. Given that the lodge operated without a fire permit, inspections have been intensified to prevent such situations in the future.
Prahova General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations announced that the lodge did not have a fire safety permit and was fined for this violation in 2020. In addition, deficiencies and irregularities were identified during an inspection in 2019, but these were not fully addressed.
The Prosecutor's Office attached to the Prahova Tribunal took over the coordination of the investigation, with the focus being on manslaughter and destruction. Prosecutors and police have started hearings to clarify the circumstances of the tragedy.
