The Fender Player Series is a line of electric guitars and basses introduced by Fender in 2018. It succeeded both the American and Mexican-made Standard series. It is crafted in Ensenada, Mexico.[1]

Features edit

Player Series instruments consist of Alder wood bodies, finished in a range of mostly flat, but also metallic polyurethane finishes. Instruments come with a choice of either Maple or Pau Ferro fretboards, the latter being a substitute for the iconic Indian Rosewood, amongst CITES restrictions against the species being used for such purpose. Like the Mexican made Standard, as opposed to the American, the Player series features headstock Truss rod adjustment, whereas the American featured the vintage-inspired heel adjust.

Most Player series instruments come standard with 3 ply Parchment pickguards and nickel plated hardware. Due to their simplicity, the Player series is a common platform for modification.

The Player series covers the Stratocaster, Telecaster, Mustang and Duo-Sonic with various pickup configurations and other hardware, the Jaguar, Jazzmaster. Basses offered are available in 4 or 5 string and fretted or fretless variations of the Precision and Jazz Bass. Most of which are available in both right and left handed.

The Player range lies under the Player Plus series, which features more unique finishes and variations such as a PJ Bass with full tonal control.

The Player Series is popular with amateur musicians, due to its low cost and being a solid platform for modifications, while still bringing a classic Fender tone.

In 2024, Fender introduced a 70th Anniversary Stratocaster, featuring a Rosewood fretboard for the first time on a Player series instrument.
