Emma Vigeland (born April 18, 1994) is an American journalist and political commentator who has gained recognition for her coverage of progressive politics and social justice issues. Vigeland has become a prominent voice in the new media landscape, with her reporting and commentary appearing on various platforms, including The Young Turks, co-hosting The Majority Report with Sam Seder and her own sports podcast titled: "ESVN - THe Emma Sports Vigeland Network".

Early Life & Education

In 2006, she began her education at Kent Place School, an all-girls institution located in Summit, New Jersey. After graduating in 2012, she pursued a bachelor's degree in Government & Law at Lafayette College, a private liberal arts college situated in Easton, Pennsylvania. Emma graduated cum laude in 2016 and was included in the dean's list and honors list for her major. During her time at Lafayette, she also became a member of the political science honors society, Pi Sigma Alpha. Additionally, Emma was the Director of Civic Management of Panhellenic Council between January and December 2014, and in 2013, she held the position of New Membership Chairperson of the Zeta Beta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma.

Emma's bachelor's thesis focused on campaign finance reform, which she considers a significant issue that needs addressing in today's political climate. Currently residing in New York City, Emma volunteered as a literacy reader at a non-profit organization called Reading Is Fundamental from September 2013 to May 2016.

Career

Emma Vigeland's career began during high school, where she worked as a Constituent Services Intern at the office of Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand between June and August 2011. After enrolling at Lafayette College, Emma was employed as an office assistant at Mierop Design in Montclair, New Jersey, from June to August 2012, and later as a sales associate at the Super Scoop Restaurant in Glen Ridge between June and August 2013. In June 2014, she worked as a legal intern at Morvillo LLP in New York City and then went on to work as an intern for the office of legal affairs at Hunter College during the next semester.

Emma's interest in the TYT Network began while watching its founder, Cenk Uygur's coverage of the 2016 US presidential election. She admired the network's straightforward coverage of political issues and joined TYT in June 2016 as a political intern. By August 2016, Emma had secured a permanent position in the organization as a political correspondent and news producer. Her passion for politics led her to report on political corruption, grassroots progressive movements across the country, and to expose conservative hypocrisy.

In April 2018, Emma had the opportunity to interview Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez about her then-ongoing campaign to become the U.S. Representative for New York's 14th congressional district.

Emma was the main host of Rebel HQ, an "on-the-road" political commentary and interview program on the TYT network, from 2018-November 2020. In October 2020, it was announced that Vigeland would join The Majority Report with Sam Seder as co-host and producer. Her first appearance took place on November 3, 2020, the date of the 2020 presidential eleciton.

On June 10th, 2022 the ESVN Show (The Emma Sports Vigeland Network) was created on YouTube. ESVN is a sports commentary show that provides a leftist perspective on sports media. Vigeland offers a "pro-labor, pro-player perspective in sports media"[1]. The show provides coverage on the NFL, NHL, NBA, and MLB.
