Egunren Kingdom is a traditional kingdom that traces its origins back for over hundred (100) years.

Egunren Kingdom is located in Ondo State, Nigeria

HISTORY: After the Ondo Kingdom was established by Princess Pupupu, one of the twins of Alafin Olueso. At that time there was a popular great hunter named Ode agba. He was highly respected across the land because of his courageous spirit of facing any king of dangerous wild animal, his physical strength and his mysterious spiritual power.

The attributes mentioned above made Ode agba the head of all hunters and fishermen. He lived in a small village with his wife ………… Close to Igbo Egunrin of today. As a leader, his compound was fixed as their meetings point before any move either for hunting of fishing. As traditionalists, before they all go for their respective daily activities, they always lay curses on anybody who might engage himself/herself in act of theft. The people of Eguren Kingdom live in peace and harmony with their lovely king ……………….

Years after years people live in fear because of the wild animals such as: leopard, tiger, buffalo, poisonous snakes among other that serves as the source of death for many of the members of the kingdom. This multiple death has dragged many people from near and far to move to the village where Ode agba lived for their safety. This migration of people has made a very explosive population in Ode agba village.

A decade after the mass migration, there was a flu epidemic and this white spread occurrence of an infectious disease has claimed many lives. As a strong spiritual man, Ode agba and some men from his village came together and met the king of Igbo Egunrin where it was decided to consult oracles in order to get the source of the epidemic. After the consultation the gods reviewed that the land is cursed and this was due to the curses the hunters and the fishermen proclaimed the only remedy was to make a sacrifice which demanded a live tiger which will be slaughter to the gods along side with genus electrophorus which is commonly referred to as electric fish to purify the land.

At that time the only person who can go for the search was Ode agba and so he took to himself that assignment.

One fateful morning, he put on his hunting attire with his local gun and he move on to the hills, forest and to rivers far from his house, he walked day and night for two days in the bush and his only source of living was pawpaw and uncooked cassava and caves was his room. He tried the first day to get the two items but all his effort were in vain. On the second day he discovered a river called Odo Ogun where he got the electric fish. Because of the long walk day, he was tired and slept off on a rock. Suddenly he had a coming of an animal but he couldn’t see clearly what exactly is approaching. Before he could imagine a big tiger jumped at him and he shouted in Yoruba language and said “IRO LO PA, MA MU E DE ILE” which means you are a Lier I will take you home.

In summary he fought the tiger and overcame it, he tied it, carried the and moved toward home. Because of his long stay in the bush other fellow hunters were looking for him he was about to turn home they saw him and when they came closer, they were surprised and said “ODE AGBA OLODE EKUN E KARE” they all moved home by singing and since that day the name “ODEDE EKUN” came to existence.

When they all returned home the whole community and kingdom was in joy and the names Ode agba and Odede Ekun was ringing everywhere as a bell.

The sacrifice was carried out and since then the land was saved. That brave move of Ode agba has brought more people to his village till he had a larger population. According to the history in Ode agba village came together and decided to be autonomy and put Ode agba as their king and they named him “EKUN OF EGUNREN KINGDOM” where he ruled for many years before he joined his ancestors. After his death, Ayejulo his son took over the throne and ruled for years before his definitive departure from the world.

His son Ikpinayo Moyan ascended the throne after the death of Moyan his son Ogun Monday Ayejulo Adelowo was to be the next king but he refused base on his contray believe as a Christian. Ogun Monday the only son of Ikpinayo got married to Rotimi and Dupe.

Dupe gave birth to Adelowo Alaba, Adeloyo Omokehinde, Adelowo Idowu, Adelowo Abosede and Adelowo Solomon while Adelowo Peter Ademigun, Adelowo Adedayo and Adelowo Adesoji Adelaja Monday Joseph were Rotimi’s Children.

Taken back to the story there was calamities in the kingdom because of the refusal of the throne by Ogun Monday. As a tradition consultation was made to gods and as I was said that if Ogun Monday refused to ascend the throne or make it occupied by any of his sons who will be chosen then the throne will be shifted to another family. This message sounded very hard in the ears of Ogun Monday and others and at that spot the priests consulted the gods (ancestors) to know who among the children of Ogun Monday can ascend the throne. It was at that day where Adelowo Adesoji Adelaja Monday Joseph was chosen by gods and accepted by men to be the new king as Odede Ekun II of Egunren Kingdom.

He got a daughter from one Mojidat Motunrayo from Ilorin state Nigeria. The pretty princess of king Adelowo Adelaja Joseph with the name Iremiposi Anuoluwapo Ayobami Boluwatife is very loyal and highly respectful to show humility to the whole kingdom and to the world at large.

Odede Ekun II of Egunren kingdom got married to princess Adejoke Iyonlade Fagorusi daughter of the late HRM Oba Adeseye Paul Afe Faokunde II the Oloyi of Oyi Kingdom Oyi irun Akoko, ondo state, Nigeria.

After the death of her father in year 2018, Princess Adejoke ascended the throne on 11th Nov 2018 as HRM, Oba Iyuade Adejoke Fagorusi Afe Faodunde III and the Oloyi of Oyi Kingdom, Irun Akoko, ondo state, Nigeria.

She is happily married to king Odede Ekun II of Eguren Kingdom with blessed children.
