Downtown One is a 140-meter tall, mixed-use skyscraper under construction in Tirana, Albania. It is the tallest building in Albania, and is estimated to be completed in 2024.[3]
History
editThe tower was initially proposed by architecture firm MVRDV in mid-2017, and after years of discussion groundbreaking of the project commenced in 2019.[4][failed verification] The building was topped out on June 25, 2021, and is expected to be completed in late 2024.[3]
Design
editThe design of Downtown One is heavily influenced by the progress of Albania.[citation needed] The tower features a series of cantilevered houses and offices, forming a relief pattern on the building's surface. The individual "pixels" on the tower's facade are each one room, and an estimated ~400 rooms will be inside.[5][failed verification]
The tower is designed to appear as an abstract map of Albania, and every room is a different "village". The outwardness of each cube represents the population of the specific area that the cube represents.[6][failed verification]
Downtown One is composed of mainly concrete, with steel and glass also playing a large part in the design.[7][failed verification]
Records
editDowntown One is the tallest building in Albania, at 140 meters (~459 feet). It is also the first building in Albania to be given a LEED precertification on the gold level.[8]
