Downtown Burlington is located on Church Street, Vermont, United States of America. Downtown Burlington has other streets located there, for example there’s Main Street, Cherry Street, etc. The area is also the birthplace of Ben & Jerry’s, an international ice cream company. Downtown Burlington or more specifically Burlington is the most populated city in the state despite not being the capital, the capital is Montpelier. As of the 2020 Census the population was 44,743 people living. Recent history of Downtown Burlington has included a housing crisis due to the rising cost of houses and a big homeless population the past 4 years since COVID-19 which also has contributed to a new opioid crisis, there has also been new construction on a two floor mall in Downtown Burlington called Cityplace Mall but for now most of the mall is abandoned but should be done in 2025. On a more significant scale Downtown Burlington is a moderately good place to shop & eat as there are big amount of shops & restaurants, for example one of the infamous restaurants downtown are Leunig’s, Pascolo’s, etc. and for shopping there are some big brands and small businesses one of the big brands of shopping is Urban Outfitters and for a small business for shopping would be April Cornell’s, a clothing shop. Downtown Burlington has lots of restaurants and shops which makes it a hotspot compared to it’s neighboring cities like South Burlington, Colchester, Winooski, etc. Near Downtown area there is a college called University of Vermont (UVM For abbreviation) which is why people refer Burlington as a “College Town” due to UVM being in Burlington. For entertainment in Downtown, there will be some street performers on Church St. or you can go to the Flynn Theater which actually held a Donald Trump Rally when he was running for president and won, there is a baseball team that resides near Downtown Burlington called Vermont Lakemonsters. The Downtown area resides on a lake called Lake Champlain which is named after Samuel De Champlain, the lake is also shared by New York & splits both states from sharing land borders. Every winter in Downtown Burlington they have a challenge which is called “The Penguin Plunge” where people go swim in the cold, freezing lake. Also during the winter time in late November the town will get a large Christmas Tree to put right at the end of Church St. and have a tree lighting. The town of Burlington usually will have a marathon and will have thousands of people to participate and is taken place in majority of Downtown Burlington. Over the years about more then 300 reports have happened at the lake of a sighting of a lake monster named Champ and Samuel De Champlain is considered to be one of the first people to sight Champ but the earliest official report was in 1970 from an issue of Vermont Life. Over the years there have been several famous people who live or were born in Downtown Burlington, more specifically Burlington for example, all members of Phish, a rock band formed in Burlington, Ben Cohen & Jerry Greenfield, founders of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream company.
