Do What You Gotta Do is the eighteenth studio album American singer Bobby Vee, and was released in October 1968 by Liberty Records[1]. The only single from the album was "Do What You Gotta Do". Dallas Smith arranged and produced the album.

it contain several Motown covers including "I Can't Help Myself","That's What Love Songs Often Do", "Do What You Gotta Do". inculding the differnent mix of "Run Like The Devil", which he recorded as a single in 1965[2]

According to Robert Reynolds, in The Music of Bobby Vee, Liberty Used photos from the same photo-shoot (from Just Today) for the cover, upon close inspection of two covers, Liberty appeared to be just going through the motions with these two LPs.[3]

"Run Like a Devil" bubbled under" Billboard's Hot 100, reaching number 124,[6] number 106 on the Cashbox singles chart,

"Do What You Gotta Do" made its debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on August 31, 1968, eventually spending one week at number 83 during its 4-weeks stay;[7] number 92 on the Cashbox singles chart[8], and number 84 in Canada.[9]

Bruce Eder of AllMusic said that the album showed "Vee proceeds with a surprisingly Motown-heavy (and surprisingly good) album of white pop-soul -- is he going to reach the soon-to-be-designated "Woodstock generation" with any of this, or make anyone forget the Temptations, the Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, and so on?, but Vee was able to do -- even his original.[10]

Billboard called it "a appealing gentle rocker".[11]

Cashbox gave the album a positive review, saying that it "showcases him in a performance of a honest strong ballads and rhythmic numbers"[12]

Anaheim Bulletin notes that "is only just beginning to realize the enormity of his pop tentlal Motown Sound"[13]

Robert Reynolds called it a "Good Album".[14]
