Dimitris Maramis is a Greek composer and pianist. He was born in Athens and studied the piano at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Great Britain and at Attico Conservatory of Music in Athens, Greece.

Biography

Dimitris Maramis started, very early, composing music for both famous and experimental theatres and theatrical organizations in Great Britain at first and then in Greece for the National Theatre of Greece and the National Theatre of Northern Greece. Up to date he has written the music for 44 performances, while, at the same time, he has selectively participated in TV shows and movies.

His works comprise large scale compositions such as the opera "Eleftherios Venizelos" commissioned by the Cultural Conference Center of Heraklion in 2023, the Greek musicals "The Haunted" commissioned by Athens Concert Hall in 2019 and "Erotokritos" commissioned by the Greek National Opera in 2017. He composed the folk oratorio "Palingenesis" (The Greek Revolution in 1821) for a musical ensemble, choir, singer and actor commissioned by the Region of Central Greece in 2021, in which innovative melodizations of the National Anthem "Hymn to Liberty" by Dionysios Solomos and of Thourios (Battle-Hymn) by Rigas Feraios as well as of other significant poems and texts about the revolution in Roumeli in 1821 are included. He has also composed the symphony odes "Morals and Curatives" for soprano, choir and orchestra commissioned by the Municipality of Larissa in 2022, the 'Twilight and Holy Fire' for an Ensemble of Brass Winds and Percussionists, a singer and an actor commissioned by the Municipality of Karpenisi/Region of Central Greece in 2023, and the 'Music of Rotunda' for vocals and a string quartet commissioned by the Cultural Center of the Region of Central Macedonia in 2018.

He has cooperated with all cultural institutions of Greece and performed his works abroad: the USA, the United Kingdom, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg. He has released seven records of his own. Since 2018, he has been the artistic director of the Delphi Festival "The Speaking Water".

The Delphi Festival was established in 2018 as a cultural amphictyony that feeds artistic activity to Central Greece, comprising the basic network of cultural activities among the cities of Fokida with Delphi being the core. "The Lalon Water" (The speaking water) is organized by the Delphi Network, the Municipality of Dorida, the Region of Central Greece, the Ministry of Culture and private sponsors.

Movies & TV Shows

He has participated in well chosen movies and TV shows starting in 2008 with the musical composition for the short film "LOGICOMIX" by Apostolos Doxiadis and, in 2009, he cooperated with the film director and animator Aristarchos Papadaniel in his first educational animated film series "A letter, a story". During the same year, he composed the music for the film "Black Field" by Vardis Marinakis.

Three years later, in 2012, he cooperated with the film director Spiros Charalambous for the short film 'Anna". In 2020, during the COVID-19 quarantine, he composed the music for the TV show "Shots with tails" edited and presented by the journalist Tasoula Eptakoili and directed by Panagiotis Kountouras for the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation ERT. In 2022 he composed the music for the documentary "Mother of the Station" by Kostoula Tomadaki.

Awards

Dimitris Maramis has also been awarded for his theatre music. In 2012 he was awarded by the Audience Theater Awards from 'Athinorama' for the play "Erotokritos" directed by Stathis Livathinos staged in Acropol theater. Five years later, in 2017, he was awarded by the Corfu Awards for the play 'The third wedding wreath' directed by Thanasis Papageorgiou and staged in the National Theatre of Northern Greece. In 2018, he was awarded by 'Kulturosupa' for the 'Erotokritos the Musical' directed by Konstantinos Rigos staged in both the Greek National Opera and in Thessaloniki Concert Hall, while, in 2023, he was nominee for the same awards for his music for the play 'Garis, the Musical' directed by Tasos Pirgieris, staged in the National Theatre of Northern Greece.
