Dharmapuri Sanjay is an Indian politician who is the former Mayor.[1] of Nizamabad and current active congress leader[2] from Nizamabad, Telangana. He is the elder of two sons of D. Srinivas,[3] who served as a three time Congress MLA from Nizamabad.
Early life and Background edit
Sanjay's father D. Srinivas served as a Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and a minister for the state of Andhra Pradesh.[4] His father also served as the president of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee. His grandfather, Dharmapuri Venkat Ram, was a member of Jan Sangh[4]. Sanjay's family belongs to the Munnuru Kapu community, which is categorized as an Other Backward Class by the Indian government.

Family Political Background edit
Dharmapuri came from a lineage deeply rooted in Indian politics. His father ( D. Srinivas ), a distinguished Indian politician, has left a significant mark on the political landscape. He was President of APPCC[5] two times and served three terms as an MLA in the State Assembly, securing victory in three consecutive elections in 1989, 1999, and 2004. He served the role of Minister for Higher Education[6] in Rajashekhar Reddy's government in 2009,[7] He undertook various portfolios in the State Cabinet of Andhra Pradesh, returning to government in 2004 and 2009. He also shares a familial connection with the esteemed former Government of Telangana finance minister, Argul Rajaram,[8]
Political Background edit
Just like his father D. Srinivas, Dharmapuri Sanjay entered in to politics to serve people. He was the former mayor of the Nizamabad Municipal Corporation elected from Congress Party with unbeatable majority. He held the post from 2005 to 2010.[9]
In 2023 general assembly elections, he was contesting as a MLA candidate from Nizamabad Urban representing the Indian Congress Party.[10]
