Desten is a developer of Lithium-ion batteries for the mobility sector, including battery electric vehicles, electric motorcycles and scooters, and eVTOL, alongside battery energy storage applications.

Desten was founded in 2015, moving its operations to the United States in 2022.

The company was founded to develop ultra-fast charging Lithium-ion batteries for electric cars that fully charge in under five minutes.[1]

Desten retains a broad portfolio of lithium-ion cell technologies which feature both Lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide and Lithium iron phosphate-based cathodes.[2][3]

In 2023, Desten received the gold medal designation in the 2023 Edison Awards' EV Battery Enhancement Category for its 19Ah 10C Ultra-Fast Charging Lithium-Ion Cell, prevailing over General Motors and SK Innovation which received the Silver and Bronze designations, respectively.[2][4]

Products and technology edit

Desten is best known for ultra-fast charging battery technology. Desten's cell line-up includes lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide cells capable of continuous charging rates (c-rate) at 10C and lithium iron phosphate cells capable of continuous charging rates (c-rate) at 6C, translating to charging times of three minutes and forty seconds (20-80% SOC) and six minutes (20-80% SOC) respectively.[2][3]

To date, the company has not disclosed its anodic composition.

Third-Party Testing edit

Desten claims its cell platforms are presently being tested by major OEMs.[3]

Partnerships and pilots edit

In 2023, Desten announced its sponsorship of InMotion, an Eindhoven University of Technology-based research and development outfit focusing on racing EV platforms[5]. The battery pack designed by InMotion utilising Desten's 20Ah cell technology achieves a charging time of 3 minutes and 56 seconds, realized through Desten’s ultra-fast charging battery. [6][7]

Advisors and directors edit

In 2023, Desten announced the addition of new members to the board of directors and the board of advisors. The three new members of its board of directors are Ammar Abdul Wahed Al Khudairy, Edward Newbury, and Buck Buckley. Rodney E. Slater and Juan Villalonga both joined as new members of the board of advisors.[8]

Awards and recognition edit

In 2023, Desten received the gold medal designation in the 2023 Edison Awards' EV Battery Enhancement Category for its 19Ah 10C Ultra-Fast Charging Lithium-Ion Cell, prevailing over General Motors and SK Innovation which received the Silver and Bronze designations, respectively.[2] [4]
