Daniel A. Kraus (1981) is a Modern Orthodox rabbi and author. He serves as Associate Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at the Birthright Israel Foundation[1] and Director of Community Education at Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.[2][3]

Kraus was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia. He received his rabbinic ordination from Rabbi Zalman Nechemia Goldberg of Jerusalem. He completed a Bachelor of Accounting and Finance at Monash University and received his Bachelor of Management and Marketing and Master of Business Administration from Manhattan’s Yeshiva University.[2] He completed the Ner LeElef Fellowship, a two-year leadership course, at the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary in New York City.

He and his wife Rachel Kraus live in New York City. They have four children.[4]

Kraus began his professional career in 2005 at Manhattan Jewish Experience, a non-profit organization for young Jewish professionals.[5] He and wife Rachel Kraus both served as the inaugural directors of MJE’s Downtown location for seven years, overseeing the creation of a new community and programs for unaffiliated Jewish professionals and a hub of Jewish engagement in Midtown Manhattan for over 7,000 participants.[4] He also served as the organization’s Chief Operating Officer for two years.

As of 2023, he is the Associate Vice President of Strategic Partnerships for the Birthright Israel Foundation, where he leads the foundation's strategic alliances and partnerships, manages post-trip engagement for Birthright alumni, and strengthens the foundation's funding opportunities, including institutional giving and individual donors.[1]

In 2012, Kraus began serving as a rabbi and Director of Community Education at Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun.[6] Alongside wife Rachel, he co-directs the KJ Beginners program which claims to provide meaningful Shabbat services and experiences for Jews of all backgrounds. The KJB program hosts the largest High Holidays and Shabbat services for beginners across the US.[7]

In 2009, Kraus founded the website Koshertopia.com,[8] a guide to kosher eateries in New York and New Jersey.[9]

In 2017, Daniel and Rachel Kraus were selected in The Jewish Week’s 36 Under 36 list of emerging Jewish leaders.[10]
