Lt Col (Retd) (Dr) Dharamdatt Goel.[1] is a war wounded soldier of Indian Army, and an adventurist known for his inspiring talks[2][3]
Early life and education edit
He was born on 14 August 1976 in Mumbai. A Ph.D. in Psychology with Masters's in Personnel Management from Pune University and a degree in B.Ed.
Career edit
DD Goel was commissioned into Army Educational Corps on 08 June 2002. The officer has experience in information warfare having served in counter insurgency area of Jammu and Kashmir. He sustained a mine blast and lost a leg while serving in the infantry near the Line of Control in Gurez Sector, Jammu-Kashmir. His leg was blown off then and there. Today he serves as an inspiration to others[4]. After loosing a limb he decided to go in to adventure sports. He is the only amputee in the sub-continent- who runs half Marathon[5], does Paragliding, Skiing[6], Motorcycle riding on a Prosthetic leg.

DD Goel[7] is also an author of the book titled "When People Doubted My Ability to Walk, I Decided to Fly.[8]" The royalty of this book is dedicated to the War wounded fund of the Indian Army. It was released[9] by the former Chief of the Army Staff, later Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat, in May 2019. The book's Marathi translation made with an aim to motivate the youth.
Achievements edit
Notably, other than earning the wound medal, he achieved the remarkable feat of being the first amputee to para glide on an Artificial Limb, a feat recognized by the Limca Book of Records. His determination and commitment earned him the Chief of Army Staff Commendation.
