Early Life

edit

Christina Lecuyer was born in Edmonton, Alberta, and grew up in a locally well known family passionate about golf. At age 3, Lecuyer's father became the head golf professional and superintendent at Westlock Golf Club in Alberta. Her family built their home on the course, where she grew up immersed in golf as her parents managed its operations. At age 6, Lecuyer earned tips by cleaning clubs and retrieving golf balls for players. During their time in Westlock, her father became a respected PGA of Alberta member, while her younger brothers, who started playing at age 5, achieved success in amateur golf.[1]

In 2003, her brother, Ryan, won the biggest junior golf event in Canada: The Canadian Junior Boys Golf Championship.[2] He and her other brother, Steven, went on to become successful NCAA Division I players and Steven is now aiming for a career on the PGA Tour Canada after winning the Vancouver Open in both 2022 and 2023.[3]

Lecuyer found her own passion for golf when she started working at Edmonton's #1 private club, the Derrick Golf and Winter Club. She realized the only way to interact with anyone at the course was to actually play golf - so that's what she did. She started playing money games at the golf club and got a quick education on how to play by watching others.[4]

Lecuyer was born to play, rapidly advancing through the amateur golf circuit in Edmonton and securing a full scholarship to play collegiate golf for the University of Central Arkansas where she continued developing her skills and passion for the game.[5] While at UCA, Lecuyer won 5 times, was a three-time All-Conference Selection, an All-American selection, and was named a second-team Academic All-American by ESPN The Magazine. In 2005, she led the girls' golf team to the Gulf South Conference championship and qualified for the 2006 NCAA Regionals.[4]

Golf Career

edit

After excelling in her college career, Lecuyer became a professional golfer, competing in various mini tours across North America and reaching the final stage of LPGA qualifying school three years in a row.[5]

Her powerful drives and striking presence on the course made her stand out, and she soon gained recognition in the golfing community. She appeared on several prominent television programs, including numerous Golf Channel series[5][6] and as a co-host of Swing Clinic with Jimmy Hanlin of FOX Sports.[1]

Her most notable television appearance was on two seasons of The Big Break. Lecuyer's first appearance was Big Break Ka'anapali where she finished in 4th place. Her second appearance was Big Break Dominican Republic which debuted on September 28, 2010. Lecuyer made the winning putt for the girls team, which further established her visibility within the sport.[5] Lecuyer has also been featured in several media outlets, including NBC Sports, ScoreGolf, and Arkansas Money and Politics, among others.

Despite her success, Lecuyer faced significant personal challenges, battling low self-esteem, an eating disorder, and a dependence on external validation. Lecuyer developed her coaching practice after dealing with personal challenges related to low self-confidence, an eating disorder, and reliance on external validation. Determined to overcome these struggles, she turned to self-development and focused on improving her mindset. Although her golfing career and media appearances brought financial success and fame, they left her feeling unfulfilled. Soon after Lecuyer's appearance on The Big Break, companies began inviting her to play golf with their executives. These interactions evolved, as she found herself offering business and personal development coaching during these sessions on the course, further solidifying her passion for empowering others. Recognizing the need for a deeper sense of purpose, Lecuyer made the pivotal decision to step away from professional golf and channel her experience into becoming a confidence coach that helps others overcome their own challenges.[4]

Even though Lecuyer stepped out of the lime-light of professional, she continues to compete in various philanthropic golf tournaments to raise funds for different causes.[7][8]
