Chris Elliott is an Australian born actor and radio announcer (not to be confused with American born actor Chris Elliott). On November 20, 2023 Chris was diagnosed with prostate aggressive cancer which has been receiving media coverage around the country with a warning to males about the cancer[1].
Chris is best known as the drive announcer on 4MMM Brisbane and Central Queensland (CQ), along with Breakfast announcer at KROQ , drive announcer at Light Hits 3AK and night announcer at 94.5 Perth. He was also cast in the recurring role as Agent Cummings[2] in the 1999 BAFTA award-winning Thunderstone (TV series)[3] [4] by Jonathon M Shiff Productions, and as Nikolai in the award-winning American film Under Jakob's Ladder [5] by CubeCity Entertainment, where he co-starred opposite Jeff Stewart.
Prostate aggressive cancer diagnosis edit
In November 2024, Chris was diagnosed with prostate aggressive cancer. "I think the man upstairs is looking after me for some reason, because if I hadn't met up with a colleague from my 1980s radio days in September who told me he'd just had prostate cancer, I wouldn't have bothered checking my own PSA level until next year, because I'd already had a blood test and PSA done in January of 2023. But I decided, I might have a check again."
"The other coincidence is, I went to a different pathologist than normal. The PSA reading came back at 5.0. Anything over 4.5 for prostate and you need to investigate. I went to do another blood test with a different pathologist about 3 weeks later and the result came back 3.81. I did a third blood test 2 weeks later with yet a different pathology lab and the result came back 4.13. In the meantime, I had an MRI which took away all doubt: Prostate aggressive cancer."
"If I had gone to either of the other pathology centres first, I would never have known about my situation. I wouldn't have bothered getting another PSA check until 12 months later, around September 2024. It would have been 'over and out' for me. I realised, there comes a time when there are too many coincidences to call them coincidences."
Chris underwent Radical Prostatectomy at Cabrini Private in Brighton Melbourne [6] on December 20 2024.
Early life edit
Chris is the oldest of 3 children of Marlene Elliott (née Day), a nurse and teacher, and Bob Elliott, a pharmacist and former president of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia. Chris was born in Brisbane Australia, and grew up in Nudgee, Queensland and then Carseldine, Queensland where he began singing at the Northern suburbs country music club. There he met Keith Urban who offered to play guitar for Chris.
Study edit
Chris studied acting full-time from 1992-1995 at Stella Adler Studio of Acting formerly Stella Adler Conservatory New York City. In January 2008 he returned to do a further one year full-time evening conservatory.
Acting Career edit
After graduating from Stella Adler in 1995, Chris returned to Australia and was cast as the lead in Man of La Mancha with Harvest Rain Theatre.[7] and in 2008 was cast in the supporting role of Nikolai opposite Jeff Stewart on the American Film Under Jacobs Ladder.
Elliott went on to appear in various Australian TV series and Canadian Films, including several roles in Stingers, Blue Heelers, and as Dr Strand (the Botox Doctor) in Neighbours.
Radio Career edit
Elliott's radio career began in 1982 at 4LG Longreach after completing Air-TV Radio School in Brisbane with teacher, John Knox. He then worked at various radio stations in Brisbane and Melbourne as an announcer until December 1992, when he left for the U.S. to start full-time acting studies.
