Central Louisiana FC (CLFC) is an American Semi-Professional soccer team located in Alexandria, Louisiana. The CLFC is a founding member of the Louisiana Premier League, the precursor of the Gulf Coast Premier League. As of 2023, they are the only original team that remains in the league. Despite being the smallest market to ever compete in the GCPL, the CLFC which acts as the adult program of the Crossroads Soccer Association, relies heavily on former youth players from the area, as well as affiliations with two local universities Louisiana State University - Alexandria and Louisiana Christian University which both compete as NAIA programs.

History edit

The CLFC was originally founded as the Crossroads Soccer Association Pool Boys FC in 2013 by Crossroads Director of Operations Jeremy Poklemba. Playing their first season in 2014, and coached by Poklemba, the team won their inaugural game 5-2 over the Lake City Gamblers of Lake Charles, Louisiana. The Pool Boys finished their first season with a 5-3 record. A 3-4-1 campaign during their sophomore season saw Poklemba choose to give up the reigns of the player-manager role and focus solely on playing. During the 2016-2017 season, Arrick Lassiter was brought in to coach the team, after a 2-7-3 campaign, Lassiter left the area to pursue other interests. Also in 2017, the GCPL changed formats to play as a summer only league beginning with 2017. With Lassiter leaving in March and the new season beginning in May, Poklemba stepped back into the head coach role, and led the team to its best finish to date with a record of 6-3 and a semi-final appearance for the first time in team history. During the 2018 season coached by Poklemba the team began the season with four consecutive losses before rebounding to finish the season at a respectable 5-5 record though still missed out on the playoffs. During the 2019 season, the team sat in first place with three games remaining, despite this one loss and one tie over the last three games saw the Pool Boys drop to third place in their conference, missing out on the playoffs on goal differential with a 5-3-2 record. The 2020 GCPL summer season was postponed to the fall of 2020 due to the Covid 19 Pandemic. During that shortened season, the team, led by Coach David Castillo, finished the season in second place, though due to the new format, no playoffs were contested. In 2021, a large amount of the core group left to join the Louisiana Krewe FC in Lafayette, Louisiana. With a changing of the guard, the Krewe went on to win the regular season and league championship, while the Pool Boys ended the season at 1-8-1. During the 2022 season Mark Hammond began to rebuild the team as head coach.
