Catherine Manchester is a figurative oil painter born in Auckland, New Zealand in 1957.
Career edit
In 1986 Catherine was awarded a New Artists Creative NZ grant and the following year in 1987 was awarded the Rita Angus residency.
Two of her works are in the permanent collection of the Aigantighe gallery,Editorial(Treasures at the Aigantighe 'Figuring space 1998 exhibited as part of the Rhythm exhibition.Image of work.The Press)and the Christchurch Law

'Art work revealed ' is an interactive CD ROM compiled by The Christchurch Art Gallery featured Manchester' s work alongside 6 other NZ artists as a school- curriculum focused learning tool combining text,audio,video image to teach the user about the working processes behind the finished artwork.'I go go Jason' was the work used of Manchester's to show the way she scraped away paint to create a 'defacement' of the image to simulate graffitti from the area which she lived.Her work was also studied at Napier Boys high school for NCEA.
