Carbone Lawyers is an Australian law firm that specialises in Personal Injury Law and Litigation, guiding clients through claims associated with workplace injuries, traffic accidents, accidents on public or private property, medical malpractice and hospital negligence, and superannuation “Total and Permanent Disability” applications. The firm was founded in Melbourne, Victoria, in 2018 by Tony Carbone and John Karantzis.[1]

Carbone also litigates in commercial law, aiding businesses with contractual and transactional issues as well as family law, where they manage sensitive cases of divorce, child custody, and alimony. Additionally, Carbone does take wills and probate cases, ensuring effective estate planning and dispute resolution.

Tony Carbone edit

Tony Carbone is the Managing Partner of Carbone Lawyers, with over 30 years of legal practice experience.[3] Tony is a member of the TAC Legal Policy Committee, where he participates in discussions related to road safety and compensation management. In addition, Tony is a part of the Board of the Essendon North Traders’ Association, representing local traders and their interests. Previously, Tony was affiliated with the Bully Zero Foundation board, where he contributed to initiatives aimed at safeguarding children from bullying and cyberbullying.

For over 10 years, Tony hosted the weekly Personal Injury Law show on Channel 31, which later moved to the Aurora Community Channel on Foxtel. He also served on the Pancare Advisory Committee, an organization focused on addressing pancreas, liver, biliary, and related cancers. Tony frequently appears in media outlets[4], including TV and radio, to discuss legal topics such as the issue of insurance for victims in accidents involving Melbourne's e-scooters[5].

In 2020 Tony began representing over 100 plaintiffs made redundant following Victoria's stage three and four lockdowns in July of that year[6]. This class action suit against the Victorian government argued that the Victorian Government is liable for damages due to the failure of its hotel quarantine program and subsequent COVID-19 outbreak[7]. The suit was later joined by close to 700 franchisees of Jim's Mowing under a “no win no fee” arrangement[8].

John Karantzis edit

John Karantzis is a Partner at Carbone Lawyers and heads the Personal Injury Law and Litigation department[9]. He has over 20 years of experience in Personal Injury Law and has received accreditation as a Specialist in Personal Injury Law by the Law Institute of Victoria. John has been acknowledged by Doyle’s Guide as a notable figure in WorkCover, Transport Accident, and Compensation Plaintiff Law and Litigation in Victoria from 2016 onwards.

John chairs the Law Institute of Victoria Workers Compensation Committee and has a track record in the negotiation and resolution of complex legal claims. Over his career, he has secured settlements that total over $50,000,000, including obtaining multiple Court judgments that surpassed $1 million in compensation for clients, recently, in May 2019, he secured a judgment of $1,043,000 in the Supreme Court of Victoria for an injured worker's claim.

  • Philips CPAP, BiPAP & Mechanical Ventilator Machines Class Action[10][11] Carbone Lawyers represented individuals affected by potential defects and health risks associated with Philips CPAP, BiPAP, and Mechanical Ventilator Machines. This class action sought to ensure that those impacted received the appropriate compensation for any damages or health complications.
  • Aged Care Epping Gardens & St Basil's Class Action[12] In this class action, Carbone Lawyers acted on behalf of residents and families affected by alleged negligence and mismanagement in the Epping Gardens and St Basil's aged care facilities.
  • Monsanto & Roundup Class Action[13] Carbone Lawyers championed the rights of individuals who alleged they were exposed to health risks due to the use of Monsanto's Roundup product.
