Brijesh Chowta, is an Indian Army Veteran, entrepreneur turned politician. He is strong contender of the BJP in the Parliamentary elections – 2024 from Dakshina Kannada Constituency.

Captain Brijesh Chowta is a philanthropist and believer of social justice. He actively participated in various social activities and was the guiding light for Tulu Nadu during agitation against PETA’s efforts to ban the traditional folk sport Kambala. Captain Brijesh Chowta has successfully carried out 5 editions of Mangaluru Lit fest, from 2019 to 2023.

Early Life

Brijesh Chowta was born in Mangaluru. His parents are Prasanna Chowta and Pushpa Chowta. He has two siblings, Girijesh Chowta and Tripiti Chowta. He is of Tulu Nadu origin of the Hindu Bunt community, and attended St.Aloysius College in Mangaluru.

Career

Brijesh Chowta joined the Indian Armed forces in 2003, under Short Service Commission at Officers Training Academy, Chennai. Later got commissioned into the 7th Bn The 8 Gorkha Rifles. Served the Indian Army until 2010 and during the service, he was a part of various operations in Assam and Manipur as part of the elite Ghatak Team. He served during counter insurgency, and served as Adjutant to the battalion. Soon after completing his service, in 2011 he took up Executive Business Management Programme, from IIM, Indore.

Political Journey

In 2013, captain took charge as Dakshina Kannada district general secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (2013 -16). In his tenure he campaigned for Karnataka Assembly Election -2013, Parliamentary Election -2014, Maharashtra Assembly Election – 2014, Delhi Assembly Election – 2015, Kerala Assembly Election -2016. In the year 2015 he was also selected as District Co-convenor for BJP Membership Campaign.

From 2016 – 2019 he held the position of District General Secretary for Dakshina Kannada from BJP. From 2019 until the present day he is the District Executive Committee Member of BJP in Dakshina Kannada. In 2023 Karnataka Assembly Election he was Byndoor Constituency in-charge and also took up the responsibility as a State Co-convenor, Yuva Samvada.

Community Service

President of Mangaluru Kambala

As a president of Mangaluru Kambala (annual traditional sport of Tulu Nadu) he led a team of youth wing and fought against PETA’s efforts to ban the traditional folk sport Kambala. This gained momentum and turned into Mangaluru Kambala, that strives to ensure the survival of Karnataka’s tradition. For the last 6 years, he has worked hard to conduct this cultural carnival in the heart of the city. The event is entirely managed by a volunteer team. The Mangaluru Kambala has become an important event in the cultural calendar of coastal Karnataka.

Organiser – Mangaluru Lit fest

He has actively organised five, 2- day Literature festival in Mangaluru, from 2019 to 2023. The two-day literary festival provides a platform for the right kind of narrative, ideology and literary discussions.

Director -Project Emboz

As Director of project Emboz, he has put in efforts to promote distinct forms of traditional Indian paintings.

Trustee-Samarthan Foundation

As a Founder Trustee of Samarthan Foundation, he has actively involved himself in various charitable and philanthropic activities across Uttar Kannada district. The trust supports the underprivileged, by providing financial, social support. The trust aims at assisting unemployed youths by providing technical education and support. The trust also promotes the preservation, conservation of rich cultural heritage. In all the trust believes in the social welfare development of the entire community.

During the Pandemic the trust had also undertaken vaccination drive and vaccinated homeless and street dwellers.

Participation

Captain Brijesh Chowta the District Yuva Pramukh of Dakshina Kannada, conducted and participated in a mega youth campaign aimed to spread the message of BE GOOD – DO GOOD. This was undertaken as a part of Swami Vivekananda’s 150th birth anniversary celebration.

He was also part of Koti Vruksha Abhiyana, a state-wide mega campaign for planting ONE CRORE SAPLINGS from June 5 to August 15, 2017 in Karnataka promoting social volunteerism among youth.
