Early Days edit

NIMOL and FILM INDUSTRY edit

Since she was a young child, Nimol has always wished to be a filmmaker. Khmer Kampuchea Krom was the place of her birth. Ever since she studied reading and writing Khmer at the pagoda as a youngster, she had always wanted to be a writer. Her family moved to Cambodia in 1999 when she was nine years old. She envisioned herself as a writer as she grew older. So she signed up for a brief screenwriting course. She could only work as a reporter after graduating, and regrettably, at that time she had no prospect of becoming a film writer. It's difficult to get employment in the film industry. In 2015, she decided to start her own production company and invested $1,000 in the first movie.

Film career edit

Initially, Channimol’s production company was named “Pro Production” and focused on advertisement videos and commercial production services. Seeing the growing interest in Thai and Korean dramas in Cambodia, she saw the potential in film production. Prior to founding Sastra Film, Channimol held various roles in the industry, including editor-in-chief of a Cambodian magazine and assistant director for a TV program.

Despite facing financial struggles, Channimol moved to Phnom Penh as a teenager to pursue her passion, working various jobs to support herself. She honed her writing skills and eventually became a part of the Khmer Writers Association, which helped her build the foundation for her successful career in film production.

Currently, Sastra Film is one of the most popular production companies in Cambodia, with more than 1.45 million subscribers on YouTube.
