Bryan Ida is a Japanese-American artist living and operating in Los Angeles, California. He went from a significant interest in music composition to a career as a portrait painter. Most of Ida's works comprise various paintings that have been showcased in the U.S., Europe, and Asia.[1]

Early Life and Education edit

Ida was drawn to music as a child and played the French Horn in the EL Camino youth symphony and school orchestras. He gravitated to electronic music during his years attending high school. He attended Sonoma State University and studied Electronic Music composition from 1984 to 1986. He would then go on to attend San Jose State University for electronic music composition as well from 1986 to 1989. [2]

Introduction to Art World edit

Ida went to work under Sam Francis in 1988, an abstract painter who helped branch his love for art further from music to visuals and painting. He would be invited by Francis to work as his assistant in the former's Palo Alto studio, where he would then paint a 20 ft x 40 ft mural commission for the United States government building located in Bonn, Germany. After a period, Ida was moved from the Palo Alto studio to Francis' studio in Venice, California, where had had free access to paint, paper, and canvas. Ida would then transition from writing music to frequenting painting, inspired by Francis' "freedom and release" imprinted in his works. [2]
