Boma Ilamina-Eremie, also known as Boma Eremie, is an Nigerian actor, writer, director, producer, public speaker and multimedia content developer. He played the lead role of Sarki ‘King’ Zamani in Halita and The Rishantes, the latter which won the Best Africamagic Original Drama Series 2022.[1][2][3][4]

Both shows have amassed a fanbase of millions of people in Africa and internationally. His role as Sarki ‘King’ Zamani in the Halita, helped the franchise become one of the most talked-about television shows in Africa.[5][6]

Early life and education

Boma was born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Nov 8, 1983,  the son of Ifiesimama Margaret Eremie (née Ogbo) and renowned agriculturist Dr Samuel Wariboko Eremie. Growing up, he lived in Port Harcourt, with his family, where he attended Nigerian Navy Primary School, Borokiri. He eventually moved to Abuja is 1992.

At Federal Government College, Kwali, Boma was found a flair for the arts and joined the school’s dramatic club. Following the prodding of his English and Literature teacher, Maurice Archibong, Boma took up writing and poetry. In addition to the arts, Boma also was a member of the junior relay team for King Jaja House’s track and field team.

By his senior year at Federal Government College, Kwali, Boma wrote and directed a play for the Annual Interhouse Drama Competition, emerging in first place.

Boma eventually gained admission to study Theater Arts at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2001. He went on to take in lead in several productions, starting from his first year, a feat that only so many students at the time could boast of. He graduated top of his class with his final year project, Personality Crisis: The Actors’ Trial, standing out as the most exploratory final year project. It would go on to serve as the basis for other projects by students in the following decades.

Acting Career

Boma entered Nollywood in 2006. Fresh out of school, he was already making the audition rounds but with little success. Eventually, he was told about an audition at the BBC World Service Trust (now BBC Media Action) for a new television series to be produced in Abuja.

Boam scored his first acting role playing Chike in the television drama, Wetin Dey, one of seven lead roles on the show. The show was initially broadcast in 2009 on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), and for twelve months. Wetin Dey was widely accepted and eventually syndicated.[7] It continues to run on various local television stations. It garnered wide acclaim for its subtle use of entertainment to educate people about the danger of unprotected sex and the risk of HIV/AIDS.[8]

Boma made his theatrical debut in A Break from Reality (2018), playing the Doctor. In the following years, Boma worked on other creative projects, returning to television starring as Sarki ‘King’ Zamani in DSTV/Showmax series Halita (2019), alongside Chisom Agoawuike.[9][10] The show was produced by ace Nollywood Producer, Dimbo Atiya (Sons of the Caliphate) and garnered millions of viewers and followers online. He had a supporting role in the romantic drama Still Falling (2021) as a guest at a friend’s hangout and was one of three protagonists in the thriller Faultlines (2021). He also starred and featured in the YouTube series Roli and Zehra (2021), and fantasy drama The Judge (2021).[11] He had further success playing a brothel manager in the television drama Covenant (2022). He recently played Bulama in Lafiya (2024), a documentary about the downsides and dangers of open burning in Africa.[12]

In 2020, Boma was a speaker at the maiden edition of TEDx Minna.[13] His talk on Demystifying Overnight Success sought to upend stereotypes surrounding the perceived rise of creatives in the light of his personal experiences.[14] He continues to explore opportunities to share his experinces as a creative with young people, within and outside the continent.

In 2022, Boma produced Her Matters, a YouTube talkshow. Created by popular comedian and actress, Chioma Omeruah, the show highlighted issues concerning women in Africa and how governments and well-meaning organizations are contributing to the welfare and well-being of women on the continent.

Boma has written for several projects for television, radio, and the internet including popular television shows, The Johnsons, PurpleTinz, The Give ‘n’ Take National Lottery Game Show, the YouTube series Her Matters, feature films Two Grannies and a Baby, A Break from Reality, and documentaries, Lafiya and Development Financing: Past, Present and Future.
