Kenneth Robert "Bob" Orr is a broadcast reporter.
Early Life
Kenneth Robert "Bob" Orr was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on 21 Oct 1953 to Kenneth Wilbur Orr and Joan Fisher or maybe Nancy Joann?
Orr attended Bethany College from 1971 to 1975. While at college Orr worked on the Bethany College radio station in the sports department.
Career
Orr reported at WTRF-TV in his hometown of Wheeling, West Virginia from 1975 to 1978.
Orr reported and anchored at WBNS-10TV in Central Ohio from 1978 to 1985 and again from 1988 to 1993.
Orr moved to a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania station in 1985 and returned to Columbus in 1988.
Orr is the Justice and Homeland Security correspondent for CBS.
1993 Lucasville Prison Riots
In 1993 Orr's coverage of the Lucasville prison riots earned him national recognition. His work helped prison negoiators end the siege in 1993.
"During negotiations with law officers, the prisoners who had killed a guard and taken hostages requested that Orr coordinate a live broadcast of their statement. He didn’t meet the inmates, but he did enter the prison and help officials with the broadcast.
“That was a tough one,” he said. “I got involved with that very reluctantly because no reporter wants to be part of the story. But things worked out; no one else was killed.”
Bob Orr retired in 2015 after more than 40 years in the news field.
Personal Life
Orr and his wife have been married for X years. Orr has three adult daughters. He resides in Florida.
