The Beta Squad is a British YouTube group consisting of Internet personalities Chunkz, Niko Omilana, Aj Shabeel, Sharky and King Kenny. The group are known for their videos of a variety of themes, including challenge videos, guessing videos, sport videos, cooking videos, and more. As of 2024, the main channel has over 8.3 million subscribers and over a billion views, along with 2 other channels, Beta Squad Shorts, and More Beta, having 58k and 108k subscribers respectively.[1]

Chunkz and Sharky started making videos together in around 2015, and Aj was Chunkz's cameraman until he started appearing in their videos a few weeks later. Niko and Kenny were making videos on their own channels and were friends at this time. In 2016, Niko and Chunkz met for the first time, leading all the other members to meet eachother. In 2019 they started their own group call the Beta Squad, which launched on 14 February 2019. The group posted their first video on the Beta Squad on 22 February 2019. They kept posting reguraly until 31 August 2019, where they then took a 5 month hiatus. In February 2020 they moved into a mansion in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire where they filmed their challenge videos in public. In late 2023, Aj accounced he were to leave the Beta Squad, but this only lasted for one video.[2]

Career edit

The Beta Squad upload every week at 2pm Saterday. There videos are of a wide variety, but they have some main series that they produce. These include 'BLIND DATING', '6 VS 1', 'FIND THE GOLD DIGGER', 'COME DINE WITH ME', 'FALSE IDENTITY', and 'Beta Squad MAFIA'. They collab with lots of popular celebrities, including the Sidemen, Dave, Aitch, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Stormzy, Speed, Maya Jama, and Burna Boy.[3] They also collab with there other Youtuber friends, like Yung Filly, Darkest Man, Harry Pinero, and Johnny Carrey. The members have also featured in the Sidemen Charity Matches, and some in Soccer Aid.[4]

Sikh Joke Incidents edit

On February 12, 2022 The Beta Squad posted the video titled we Pretended To Work At The Grocery Store (Fake Employee Prank) in the video the team trying to Pretended the Customer abd avoid getting fired in Grocery Store The store was being managed by a 19-year old Sikh man, who introduces himself as ‘Milan’ during the whole prank. Sharky is instructed by his friends to approach Milan and say ‘I think it’s Sikh that you are Sick, unfortunately the Beta Squad faced backlash and controversies from the community. They later apologized.

Beta Squad faced backlash from the community. However, the YouTubers were quick to respond to the backlash through their social media. Describing their actions as unintentional, they publicly apologized for their comments saying ‘Religion shouldn’t be joked about and we apologize to anyone who was offended by our comments’, they added. They also wrote that sometimes ‘things seem to be a good idea’ but now that they look back upon it, they realize how poor it was. [5]
