History edit

BayCare Clinic is the largest physician-owned specialty-care clinic in northeastern Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. It is based in Green Bay, Wisconsin.[1]

BayCare Clinic was founded in February 1999.[2]

BayCare Clinic’s origins date to 1996, when a group of Green Bay physicians in specialty practices founded Physicians Resource Network LLC, a management services organization.[3] PRN contracted the specialty physicians’ services with health care networks serving northeastern Wisconsin.[4] PRN changed its name to BayCare Health Systems LLC in March 1998.[5] The founding physicians began working as a fully integrated group practice in February 1999, forming BayCare Clinic.

Medical operations edit

BayCare Clinic offers care in 20 more than medical specialties.[6] As of December 2022, it had 146 physicians and 114 advanced practice practitioners.[2]

BayCare Clinic has locations[7] in 12 communities in northeastern Wisconsin: Green Bay, Manitowoc, Marinette, Kaukauna, Sturgeon Bay, Two Rivers, Pulaski, Oconto Falls, Shawano, New Franken, Oshkosh and Neenah.

BayCare Clinic specialty practices[6] are anesthesia; audiology; ear, nose and throat; emergency medicine; neurological surgery; neuropsychology; ophthalmology and optometry; oral and maxillofacial surgery; orthopedics and sports medicine; pain and rehabilitation medicine; plastic surgery and aesthetic services; and radiology.

Six other BayCare Clinic specialty practices[6] are operated as joint ventures with Aurora Health Care, a subsidiary of Advocate Aurora Health, a health care system based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Downers Grove, Illinois. These specialty practices are cardiology; cardiothoracic surgery; general, vascular and bariatric surgery; gynecologic oncology; interventional neurology; and urology. They are branded as Aurora BayCare.

BayCare Clinic is a joint partner in Aurora BayCare Medical Center,[2] a 167-bed, full-service tertiary care hospital at 2845 Greenbrier Road in Green Bay. Aurora Health Care is the other joint partner.

Aurora BayCare Medical Center is a teaching affiliate of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, one of two medical schools in Wisconsin. The affiliation was established in 2007.[2] Some BayCare Clinic physicians are clinical faculty members. The hospital hosts medical students from the Wisconsin Academy for Rural Medicine, a rural education program that is part of the MD curriculum at the UW medical school.[8]

Other community outreach edit

BayCare Clinic Foundation edit

BayCare Clinic established the BayCare Clinic Foundation[9] in 2000[10]. It is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides scholarships to students[11], professional development awards to instructors and educational institutions, and grants in support of health and wellness initiatives and community events in Green Bay and northeastern Wisconsin. The foundation’s mission is to promote causes and organizations providing people with improved health and livelihood.

BRAs of the Bay edit

BayCare Clinic established BRAs of the Bay[12] in 2015[13][14]. The annual event takes place in October, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Its goal is to raise awareness of breast reconstruction rights for people who have had breast cancer surgery. The federal Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act, also known as Janet’s Law, mandates insurance coverage of breast reconstruction surgery for breast cancer patients. Themed bras are created and decorated by individuals and businesses for the BRAs of the Bay event. The decorated bras are auctioned off to raise money for Ribbon of Hope, a non-profit resource organization for breast cancer patients in northeastern Wisconsin, and for the Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day USA organization.

BayCare Clinic Century Bayshore to Lakeshore edit

BayCare Clinic established the BayCare Clinic Century Bayshore to Lakeshore[15] bicycle tour in 2017[16]. The annual event takes place on the first Saturday of June. The ride has routes of 15, 30, 60 and 100 miles with rest stops, rider support and a post-ride picnic. The 100-mile route, or century ride, goes from Green Bay to Lake Michigan and back, thus the event’s name. Proceeds from the ride benefit the BayCare Clinic Foundation. The 2020 and 2021 rides were canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.[17]
