The Battle of Oplaza (albanian: Beteja e Oplazës , serbian:Bitka kod Oplaze) was a battle faught in the outskirts of the village of Oplaza near Gjakova. This was the first battle where Agim Ramadani would fight in.

Background

Agim Ramadani (also known as "Katana") was a KLA general born on May 3, 1963 in the village of Zegra, Gjilan. In the early 80's he would attend military school in Zagreb.

In the spring of 1998 , when the Kosovo War was becoming a large-schale conflict , Ramadani was given the task of mobilizing young albanians in Western Europe and bring them to KLA bases where they would then join the militia group.

He entered Kosovo on 24 June 1998 and his operational zone was Dukagjini. He recieved the rank of Major, before later being prometed to Lieutenant Colonel. Onthe 9th of August 1998 he would lead his army in the fierce battle of Oplaza.[2]

Battle

On the 9 of August 1998 Agim Ramadani and his troops would go on to attack the village of Oplaza. A large clash would brake out in the outskirts of the village which resulted in 20 yugoslav soldiers being killed. The battle would be won by the KLA as yugoslav morale would be broken and the village would be liberated.
