Barasat Samajik Seba Pratisthan, commonly known as Barasat Samajik is a registered society having focus upon deceased organ donation awareness. In a short span of existence Barasat Samajik took great initiatives towards promotion of deceased organ donation awareness. Recently that resulted into a national appreciation. Barasat Samajik was honoured with Supportive NGO Award by National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO^[1]), Department of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of India on 3rd August, 2024.

1. Brief History

During Lockdown period^[2] a good number of people were badly affected. Most of them lost the livelyhood. At that time some people of barasat gathered together to provide weekly ration to such families. They had no formal organisational structure at that time. In the meantime supercyclone Amphan devasted the Sunderban area of West Bengal. The team dived into relief activity. And once it is done, they decided to form a permanent set up. And the product is Barasat Samajik Seba Pratisthan. It was registered under the West Bengal Society Registration Act, 1961 on 3rd October, 2020.

2. Activities

Barasat Samajik has multifarous activities. These include

* Academic Support of meritorius students of poor 
  families
* Medical support to poor people
* Subsidised Oxygen service
* Subsidised Hearse Cart service
* Organ Donation awareness 
* Relief in natural calamities

Since 2021 Organ donation awareness has become the core activity.

3. Location

The NGO maintains its office at 81, Nabapally Circular Road, PO - Nabapally, Barasat, PIN - 700126, West Bengal.

4. Appreciations

In 2022 Regional Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation, Kolkata issued a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of the service of the NGO in organ donation awareness.

In 2023 Prova Eye Bank^[3], the leading eye bank in West Bengal issued a certificate of appreciation in recognition of the service in case of eye donation.

In 2024 National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation, Department of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of India honoured with the Supportive NGO Award.
