Dr. Bala M. Bello is a Deputy Governor at the Central Bank of Nigeria. He was appointed by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu on the 15th of September, 2023 and assumed office on October 5, 2023.[1]. Bala oversees the Corporate Services Directorate of the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN). He previously served as the Executive Director (Corporate Services) of Nigerian Export - Import Bank (NEXIM) from 2017 until his appointment as Deputy Governor and Member of the Board of CBN[2].
Background to Appointment edit
Bala was appointed as Deputy Governor upon the removal of the entire management team of the CBN made up of the governor and four deputy governors namely Godwin Emefiele (Governor), Folashodun Shonubi, Aishah Ahmad, Edward Adamu and Kingsley Obiora who were deputy governors[3]. They were removed from office on the 15th of September, 2023 on account of corporate governance failures at the CBN[4]. Subsequently, President Tinubu appointed Bala M. Bello as Deputy Governor and part of the Management team of CBN alongside Yemi Cardoso (Governor), Muhammad Sani Abdullahi, Philip Ikeazor and Emem Usoro as deputy governors[5].
