Botafoguear - Slang/Verb in Portuguese. Meaning: To lead people to think you are able of great achievements by demonstrating positive results, but when the pressure strikes, you fail to deliver and go back to being unreliable and mediocre. Synonyms: "Cavalo Paraguaio", Massive Failure, Incompetence.

This term was created in 2023 after the Brazilian soccer team "Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas" from Rio de Janeiro lost the Brazilian National League Title after leading the league for 34 rounds with 15 points ahead of the second team. In the final rounds, after fans were celebrating what was once an assured Championship, Botafogo entered a negative spiral, lost most of their games and saw their leadership perish away. And the much desired title slipped through their hands establishing the biggest embarrassment in Brazilian Soccer history at a club level. Til this date Brazil's 2014 World Cup loss to Germany by 7 to 1 is the biggest embarrassment in Soccer History.
