Assaí Atacadista is a Brazilian chain of warehouse stores. Founded in October 1974 in São Paulo, focused on serving micro and small business customers. Operates on 24 federative units (including the federal district). It also sponsors Série A, the elite of Brazilian football.
It belonged directly to GPA until 2021, when it opened trading on the stock exchange. However, the company was still controlled by the French group Casino – which also controls GPA – until 2023, when it sold its last shareholding in the Company. In this way, Assaí becomes a 'true corporation', or a company without an owner and with 100% dispersed capital.
Since 2021, its shares have been traded on both the São Paulo Stock Exchange (B3) - under the ticker ASAI3 - and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), being the only one in its segment listed on both. In 2022, the Company was considered Top of Mind in the “Wholesale” category in a survey carried out by the Datafolha Institute; and elected the best company in the “Retail Commerce” sector by the Valor 1000 Award.[9] In 2023, it was considered the most valuable food retail brand in the annual rankings promoted by Interbrand (20th overall)[10] and Brand Finance (13th overall).
In 2022, it was considered the second largest retail company in Brazil, according to the IBEVAR–FIA Ranking, with annual revenue of R$45,600,000,000.
