Armenia is set to take part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Madrid, Spain. The Armenian broadcaster Public Television of Armenia (AMPTV) will internally select the country's entry for the contest.

Background

edit

Prior to the 2024 contest, Armenia had participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest sixteen times since its first entry in 2007.[1] Armenia had won the contest, to this point, on two occasions: in 2010 with the song "Mama" performed by Vladimir Arzumanyan and in 2021 with the song "Qami Qami" performed by Maléna. Following each of their wins, in 2011 and 2022, Armenia hosted the competition in its capital city, Yerevan.[2] The nation briefly withdrew from the contest in 2020 due to the then-ongoing Second Nagorno-Karabakh War, marking its only ever absence since its debut.[3] It was then set to be represented by the eventual 2021 winner, Maléna.[4] In 2023, Yan Girls competed for Armenia with the song "Do It My Way", which ended up in 3rd place out of 16 entries with 180 points.[5]

The Armenian national broadcaster, Public Television of Armenia (AMPTV), broadcasts the event within Armenia and organises the selection process for the nation's entry. Armenia had used various methods to select its entry in the past, such as internal selections and live televised national finals.[6] AMPTV confirmed its intention to participate in the 2024 contest on 5 July 2024, while also confirming its artist would be selected internally, using a similar audition process to their previous two participations.[7]

Internal selection

edit

Upon confirming their participation in the 2024 contest, AMPTV opened a submission window for interested artists aged between nine and fourteen, lasting until 21 July 2024.[7] The deadline was later extended to 28 July 2024.[8][9] All submissions required participants to enter covers of two songs. All entrants were to be citizens or long-term residents of the Republic of Armenia and could be a soloist, duet or part of a group of up to six members.[10]
