Anni Bergman (10 January 1919, - 2 October 2021) was an Austrian-American child psychologist who specialized in adolescent development theories.[1] She was a founding director of the Anni Bergman Parent-Infant Program.[2] This program is unique in that it provides intensive training in infant observation and training in parent-infant psychological treatment.[3] Born in Vienna, she immigrated to the United States in 1939.[4] In 1959, Dr. Bergman collaborated with Margaret Mahler on a study about the separation-individuation process.[5] This important study served as the basis for the ground-breaking book The Psychological Birth of the Human Infant, which she co-wrote with Margaret Mahler and Fred Pine.
