Dr. Anjal Prakash (born March 6, 1972) is an Indian academic and researcher known for his work in sustainability, water management, climate change, urban resilience, and social inclusion in South Asia. He currently serves as a Research Director and Adjunct Associate Professor at the Bharti Institute of Public Policy, Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad, India.[1][2]
Dr. Prakash's career has included significant roles in various organizations and contributions to global climate discourse. He has been an Associate Professor at the TERI School of Advanced Studies and coordinated the Himalayan Adaptation, Water, and Resilience (HI-AWARE) program at the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) in Kathmandu, Nepal.[3]
He has also contributed to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) as the Coordinating Lead Author for the Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate (SROCC, 2019) and as a Lead Author for Working Group II of the IPCC’s 6th Assessment Report.[4]
Early Life and Education
editAnjal Prakash was born on March 6, 1972, in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India. He completed his initial education in Jamshedpur before pursuing higher education at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Mumbai, India, where he earned a Master’s degree in 1997. He later completed his doctoral studies at Wageningen University and Research in The Netherlands, receiving his Ph.D. in Social/Environmental Sciences in 2005.[5]
Career
editDr. Prakash began his academic career as an Associate Professor at the TERI School of Advanced Studies, focusing on sustainable development. He then joined ICIMOD, where he coordinated the HI-AWARE program, addressing climate change impacts in glacier and snowpack-dependent river basins.[6]
At ISB, he continues to contribute to research and policy development. His academic contributions include authoring several books and editing journal issues on water resources policies, gender issues, and peri-urban water security. Dr. Prakash also serves on the editorial boards of various journals, including as an associate editor for "Current Research in Environmental Sustainability" and "Nature’s Urban Sustainability".[7]
