Draft:Andromeda Software Development

Andromeda Software Development (abbreviated ASD) is a Greek demogroup that was formed in 1992.[1][2]

ASD participated in pioneering Greek demoscene event The Gardening which was held in the city of Patras between 1995-1997.[3]

In 2004 ASD made their first demo for Assembly party held in Helsinki. They eventually won Assembly's demo compo in 2005 demo competition with Iconoclast. Over many years, ASD was one of the main competitors of the renown demogroup Fairlight.[4]

Finnish journalist Mikka Hyvönen characterises ASD as a tight group of friends who spent considerable time together both inside and outside the demoscene.[4] Navis, ADS's main coder, has been interviewed by German media scholar Doreen Hartmann for her monograph on the practices and structures of the demoscene.[5]

ASD is not associated with the Norwegian demogroup Andromeda, however, ASD collaborated with their graphics artist Archmage while producing their 2007 Assembly demo competition winner Lifeforce.

Style

edit

ASD demos feature virtual worlds that German media scholar Daniel Botz describes as being located between dreams and nightmares, containing self-illuminating wire meshs, filigree line clews and particle swarming on high detailed, organic polygon models.[1] According to Botz, the demos of ASD belong to a new generation of demos in which single effects cannot be anymore judged as separate achievements and any means of representation is seen as legitimate. Here two- and three-dimensionality are used as necessary constituents while abstract and representative motifs have an equal role.[1]
