Alpaquita Linux is a lightweight GNU/Linux distribution based on Alpine Linux[1] for Cloud and Server use.[2] Alpaquita was developed by OpenJDK contributor BellSoft[3] and introduced in 2022.[4]

Features

edit

Alpaquita is the Linux operating system optimized for Java applications with a TCK-verified runtime and optimized memory consumption. Alpaquita has two standard C library implementations: optimized musl (musl perf) and glibc.[5] It is distributed under EULA (End-user license agreement).

Alpaquita Linux distribution, in combination with Liberica JDK Lite, delivers production-ready containers for Java applications.[6]

Alpaquita supports CRaC technology, a Checkpoint/Restore API.[7][8][9] The operating system supports kernel module compression, and contains the malloc implementations mimalloc, jemalloc and rpmalloc. Base Alpaquita image can be used as is or customized with packages from Alpaquita package repositories. BellSoft also provides images with tools and utilities for Java, Python, and C/C++ development.[10]

Alpaquita is delivered different platforms, including:

  • ISO distribution, mini rootfs tarball, WSL image
  • APK (Alpine Package Keeper) repository providing upgrades.
  • Docker Hub repositories with pre-built images, including base image, Liberica Runtime Container, Liberica NIK image, GCC image, and Python image.
