Almukantarat Astronomical Club (Polish: Klub Astronomiczny Almukantarat) is an astronomical society operating in Poland since 1983[2][3][4], bringing together astronomy and science enthusiasts. The word almukantarat in the Club's name is a rarely used astronomical term. The club is headquartered in the building of the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center in Warsaw[5].
The club's main goal is to popularize astronomy and related fields of science, especially among young people, which is realized, among other things, at astronomy camps that have been organized annually for more than 40 years[2]. The association currently has more than 100 members[6]. The club is the publisher of the Polish astronomy portal AstroNET[2][7].
The club pursues its statutory goals mainly by organizing science camps for talented middle school students, which are held in the summer[8][9], and mid-year meetings - seminars and winter workshops[10]
All activities are performed on a volunteer basis. Among the club's alumni are current members of the Polish Astronomical Society, academics at Polish and foreign universities, as well as numerous winners of the Polish[11] and International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics[12][13][14], and amateur astronomers (such as the discoverer of the asteroid 2005 TD49[15]).
