The "Almanach des Gourmands" is recognized as one of the first-ever written restaurant reviews. The first volume was published in 1803 and was written by Grimod de la Reynière, who was a famous theater critic and lawyer. Reynière found success after he published the first volume and continued to publish a total of 8 volumes, each detailing Paris's food and restaurant culture.
