Catalan Alliance (Catalan: Aliança Catalana) is a right-wing Catalan nationalist party founded in Ripoll in 2020. It advocates the protectionism of Catalan companies, the separation between state and religion and the defense of the market economy. The party has taken a position against illegal immigration in Catalonia, for which it has been considered Islamophobic.

History edit

On March 31, 2020, Sílvia Orriols, then councilor in the Ripoll City Council for the National Front of Catalonia (FNC), left the FNC due to differences over the phenomenon of Maghreb immigration, criminalizing it with Islamophobic speeches, after instrumentalizing the social unrest following the attacks in Catalonia in 2017.

Months later, on July 29, 2020, Sílvia Orriols and the local group of the FNC decided to create a new political party that would represent Catalan nationalism, could improve public security and push back Maghreb immigration.

In May 2023, Aliança Catalana won the local elections in Ripoll by obtaining six councilors with an anti-immigration speech and introducing concepts specific to the extreme right such as the conspiracy theory of the great replacement or a supposed "clash of civilizations". In the other two municipalities where he ran, he won a councilor in Manlleu and another in Ribera d'Ondara. On June 12, the rest of the political forces of the Ripoll City Council tried to make a pact to prevent Aliança Catalana from governing the municipality, but finally Orriols was invested as mayor on June 17, 2023.

On July 11, 2023, Sílvia Orriols confirmed that Aliança Catalana would present a candidacy for the 2025 Catalan Parliament Elections.
