Alec Lance Corpuz Cepe (born 25 September 2003), known socially as Alec Lance, is a Singaporean-raised filipino. He was born in Singapore and raised in Sembawang, a northern region in Singapore. He began posting covers in his name on youtube in 2017, with the first being a piano score arrangement of a medley mashup of Katy Perry's "Ghost" and Flo Rida's "Cake". This led to his interest in music as a hobby and consequently a means to a viable career path. In December 2017, he stumbled upon a music distribution website where he could stream his music to popular music streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music and Youtube for free, hence creating his own account and releasing his first few releases which were covers.

Alec has released over 10 albums in a span of 6 years,[1] leaving social media and any sort of online presence on the 12th of May 2023. He furthermore quietly released 6 more projects before he finally became fully inactive as an artist on the month of September 2023.

5 months later, on February 28th, 2024. Alec Lance quietly released a new album without any prior promotion and marketing release titled "Recorded by a Sembawang Boy (On Full Display)".[2]

Career

edit

1st Project: I: Mystery

edit

In April of 2019, Alec made plans to release his ever project, a debut album titled "Mystery". Instead of releasing singles, and working one song at a time, he began ideating 12 tracks simultaneously to form one full album experience. The then-16-year-old had only release one single to promote it to his peers at school which was the first track in the album titled, "All The Good Things". Alec had also planned this in lieu of his EAE coming up as he applied for Singapore Polytechnic's course in Music & Audio Technology. Due to his final year in secondary school, he spent his whole June school holidays working on the album by himself and released into streaming platforms on June 23, 2019.

2nd Project: II: Letters to the Closest Kinds

edit

In December of 2019, Alec started working on his sophomore album "Letters to the Closest Kinds" and was released in January 2020. In June and August in 2020, he released 2 standalone singles: "Phone Call" and "That Girl".

3rd Project: III: Hi, I'm

edit

Alec released a compilation album of the best hits from his first two projects, which was released on the 31st of December 2020.

4th Project: IV: mõna | Amber | DU19

edit

In 2021, he released another two singles: "Soundproof" and "Amber". In August of 2022, he released an EP that was a remix of an older song from his sophomore album, "DU19" along with other rejected versions. At the same time, he was working with SCAPE's Dance Residency[3] Programme[4] where we composed a 15-minute piece for a local dance showcase, which was released to streaming platforms in September 2022, titled "mõna".[5]

5th Project: V: PERSONA.

edit

In January of 2023, Alec shifted gears and decided to question his music artistry by creating his fourth project that featured a collection of previously released songs on top of new ones as well, building a concept album of a personality behind the creation of songwriting and producing, titled "PERSONA". It was released in May 2023 and was the last release to have been properly promoted by Alec prior to his departure from social media and presence online.

6th Project: VI: THE UNKNOWN. (Redacted)

edit

Alec released his 6th project shortly after "PERSONA" which acts as a deluxe version featuring demo tracks, alternative recordings and other songs not featured in the original. "THE UNKNOWN. (Redacted)" was released on the 27th of May 2023. This was the first of his quiet releases after announcing a departure from his online persona, presence and from being a music artist on the 12th of May.

7th Project: VII: goodbye.

edit

On August 27, 2023, Alec curated an EP which featured first-take acoustic recordings of him performing to songs that have never been released before, as originals. Only recorded with his iPhone and his keyboard and/or acoustic guitar, Alec wanted to reveal his more vulnerable music-making processes by releasing his completed incomplete song ideas.

8th Project: VIII: yours truly,

edit

Alec's 8th project acts as an additional EP to "goodbye." where he released even more raw recordings of himself and his instrument on the 1st of September 2023.

9th Project: IX: PERSONA & THE UNKNOWN (SIDE-B)

edit

"PERSONA & THE UNKNOWN (SIDE-B)" acts as a double deluxe version of his 2 projects that is mentioned in the name itself including even more audios and rejected demos. It was released on September 2, 2023, the day after "yours truly,".

10th Project: X: The End: 6 Years of Alec Lance

edit

Alec Lance wanted to accumulate all of his musical ventures into a celebration of 10 albums all showcasing different creation processes and his approaches to music, hence before he fully departs from making music, he proceeded to curate one last final compilation album of all the work he's ever done for the past 6 years. "The End: 6 Years of Alec Lance" was released on September 4th, 2023, before going radio silent since then.

11th Project: Recorded by a Sembawang Boy (On Full Display)

edit

On the 28th of February 2024, Alec Lance quietly released his final curated body of work. Acting as a conclusive, cohesive and explanatory album to explain his departure from a music career. Alec's 11th project was untethered to his other 10-Album project work and acted as a rebranding as it was evident to the new updated profile picture and other visual materials online on streaming services.[6]
