Draft:Albert Tate (pastor)

Albert Tate is the founding and lead pastor of Fellowship Monrovia, an American evangelical church in Los Angeles County, California. Tate is the founder and CEO of The Greatest Story, Inc, and President of Harambee Ministries. Additionally, he is a sought-after conference speaker and published writer.

Career edit

Tate was ordained at Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi.[1] He began his ministry pastoring just a few families at Sweet Home Church in Mississippi before serving the historic Lake Avenue Church in Pasadena, California.

Hearing the call from God to plant a church, Tate and his wife, LaRosa, launched Fellowship Church in January 2012. The vision of the church has been to be a "multiethnic, intergenerational and gospel-centered church".[2] By 2017, the church grew to have an approximate weekly attendance 3,500 people, becoming one of the largest, fastest-growing and influential in the area. [3] [4]

As the church grew, so did Albert Tate's influence. Locally, he has spoken at the Mayor's Breakfast in Monrovia.[5] Nationally, he has spoken at some of the most prominent Christian universities, including Biola and Grand Canyon University,[6][7] and some of the premier Christian conferences, including Global Leadership Summit,[8] Exponential,[9] Urban Youth Workers Institute,[10] and Orange Leaders Conference.[11]

Leave of absence edit

In 2022, Tate was caught engaging in "inappropriate text messaging".[12] [13]

The scandal was dealt with privately by church board. However, when some revelation of it became known and public in the summer of 2023, Tate, subsequently, was asked to resign from the Board of Stadia, an international church planting organization.[14] He was also placed on leave on September 24, 2023 from Fellowship Monrovia, the church he founded. [3][15][16]

By his own decision, he stepped down as a Board of Trustee from Azusa Pacific University in August 2023, citing "a busy schedule involving a new book and speaking engagements."[17]

On November 2023, it was announced that Tate was set to return from leave in January 2024, even though allegations of misappropriation of church funds and sexual harassment were brought against him by former staff.[18] Tate has denied the allegations.[19]

Personal life edit

Tate is the father of four children. He is a mentee of Craig Groeschel.[8]
