20TOKENS is a Ukrainian band formed and lead by vocalist Valerii Chubenko.[1]
History
editThe band was originally a one-piece band consisted by the current frontman, Valerii Chubenko in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine.[2] While most of the lyrics are written by him, he reveals that the songs talk about real-life events and people and is always about something personal. He even calls music as a method of therapy and a way to help people that have the same feelings with him to not feel alone. [3]
They first gained attention through TikTok, especially through the covers of famous songs that were posted[4], the first being Valeriya's "Chasiki".[5]
In 2021, they appeared for the first time at Fox Rock fest in Russia.[6]
The themes of the songs are mostly about depression and bad relationships while combining emotional lyrics, extreme vocals and heavy live instruments. [4]
Inspirations
editWhen writing music bands such as Slipknot, My Chemical Romance, HIM, Bring Me the Horizon, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Woods of desolation,[3]Three Days Grace, Killswitch Engage. Bullet for My Valentine, Deftones and Rob Zombie[2] are listed as inspirations. They are also inspired by modern artists Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert and Chase Atlantic.[3]
